Weight loss drugs have considerable advantages but as use grows unexpected side effects are occurring too.
For the child bearing years, usually 15-45 years of age, weight loss drugs seem to render oral contraceptives less effective.
Therefore, should you wish to delay or prevent conception, it is best to add a barrier method such as condoms or a diaphram to the combined or progestogen only pill.
Should a pregnancy occur, the weight loss drugs need to be stopped because there is insufficient knowledge about how these drugs can affect a developing baby. Animal studies indicate that there could be adverse fetal outcomes.
For those in older age groups, it has been found that people with diabetes have twice the likelihood of developing neovascular age related macular degeneration, than diabetics not on weight loss drugs.
I like the tried and true method of exercise. lol I tell the doctors when we meet the first time that I am not normal, next to the medical anomaly definition in the dictionary is my picture. My now former endocrinologist tried twice to have on a pump but both times it kept crashing my blood sugars. She had me tested to make sure I was actually a type 1 and not a missed diagnosed type 2. Test confirmed I am definitely type 1. I am very sensitive to insulin she claimed. I argued that my metabolism seems to change fast and across a wide range when exercising. Ratios for morning after being asleep all night is 1:2. Ratio at work goes up to about 1:10 This is why I believe the exercise affects my metabolism so much. I have to modify that ratio if I miss a week or more in the gym. Being an avid weight lifter, I know it is one of the ways a person can reduce insulin resistance. That former endo sent me to see a metabolic specialist to get me on a keto diet because she thought my lack of success o the pump was due to my diet. The specialist told me I was not a good candidate for keto because I was too active. It was more for office type workers than active people. We did change my diet to cut carbs but it is not a keto diet by any means. For me the exercise routine is the best way to stay in shape and loose weight. Last October I was 255 lbs. (95.18kg) and now a year later I’m sitting at 240 lbs. (89.58 kg). Not a lot of change for 1 year but if you take into account I had a damaged shoulder that kept out of the gym for about 4 years and now I have gotten back, read that as regained a lot of muscle mass back to replace fat lost, It is a big change.
